For residency #001 Paris-based architect Louise Morin will be working on ‘our relationship to (thermal) comfort and the idea of ideal temperature’.


Architecture rarely occupies the public debate except through the prism of thermal comfort. From global warming and ways to keep our buildings cool in summer, to energy issues and our heating needs that have been at the heart of discussions with the war in Ukraine and its consequences on energy resources. Housing insulation is in one case as in the other, presented as the solution to all ills, and “thermal renovation” is financed by the state. The materials that are used to carry out these thermal renovations often come from the petrol industry, and if there are interesting practices around alternatives, Louise Morin wants to question this notion of heating the bodies rather than the spaces.


During five months Louise Morin investigated the relationship Belgium has with the textile industry, the way it changed our interiors and the impact it had on our comfort. In a second stage she worked on the idea of heating the body rather than heating the space. The exhibition was on show between 23 February and 19 May 2024 presented the result of this research.

Pour la résidence #001, l'architecte parisienne Louise Morin travaillera sur « notre rapport au confort (thermique) et à l'idée de température idéale ».


L'architecture occupe rarement le débat public, sauf à travers le prisme du confort thermique. Du réchauffement climatique et des moyens de rafraîchir nos bâtiments en été, aux questions énergétiques et à nos besoins en chauffage, qui ont été au cœur des discussions avec la guerre en Ukraine et ses conséquences sur les ressources énergétiques. Dans un cas comme dans l'autre, l'isolation des logements est présentée comme la solution à tous les maux, et la « rénovation thermique » est financée par l'État. Les matériaux utilisés pour réaliser ces rénovations thermiques proviennent souvent de l'industrie pétrolière, et s'il existe des pratiques intéressantes autour des alternatives, Louise Morin souhaite remettre en question cette notion de chauffage des corps plutôt que des espaces.


Pendant cinq mois, Louise Morin a étudié la relation que la Belgique entretient avec l'industrie textile, la manière dont celle-ci a transformé nos intérieurs et l'impact qu'elle a eu sur notre confort. Dans un deuxième temps, elle a travaillé sur l'idée de chauffer le corps plutôt que l'espace. L'exposition présentée du 23 février au 19 mai 2024 a présenté le résultat de cette recherche.

Architectuur komt zelden ter sprake in het publieke debat, behalve dan door de lens van thermisch comfort. Van de opwarming van de aarde en manieren om onze gebouwen in de zomer koel te houden, tot energievraagstukken en onze verwarmingsbehoeften, die centraal stonden in de discussies over de oorlog in Oekraïne en de gevolgen daarvan voor de energievoorziening. In beide gevallen wordt woningisolatie voorgesteld als de oplossing voor alle problemen, en wordt ‘thermische renovatie’ gefinancierd door de staat. De materialen die worden gebruikt om deze thermische renovaties uit te voeren, zijn vaak afkomstig uit de aardolie-industrie, en hoewel er interessante alternatieven bestaan, wil Louise Morin deze notie van het verwarmen van lichamen in plaats van ruimtes in vraag stellen.


Gedurende vijf maanden onderzocht Louise Morin de relatie die België heeft met de textielindustrie, de manier waarop deze onze interieurs heeft veranderd en de impact die dit heeft gehad op ons comfort. In een tweede fase werkte ze aan het idee van het verwarmen van het lichaam in plaats van de ruimte. De tentoonstelling, die te zien was van 23 februari tot 19 mei 2024, presenteerde het resultaat van dit onderzoek.

In combinatie met de tentoonstelling werd 

 uitgebracht waarin het onderzoek wordt gepresenteerd.
